The men's and women's swimming and diving teams had their home opener Saturday, Nov. 8 against Skidmore College. It was the teams' first dual meet of the year, though the swimmers were fresh from the Union Relays the previous weekend.

The women's team emerged victorious, finishing 175-112. At this same meet last year, the women's swimmers struggled against Skidmore's Thoroughbreds, and the victory eased nerves for the upcoming season.

The men's swimming and diving teams also enjoyed a victory today, triumphing over Skidmore 165-117.

Emily Love '09, consistently one of the women's strongest swimmers, racked up four first-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.04), 200-yard backstroke (2:15.04), 500-yard freestyle (5:23.93), and as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:43.84).  Her 200-yard freestyle time was a new Vassar record.

Samantha Jones '11 and Caroline Shannon '12 also spurred the team to victory, emerging with three wins apiece. Jones won the 50-yard freestyle, the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.31) and 100-yard butterfly (1:03.24); Shannon was first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.58), 200-yard breaststroke (2:33.49) and 200-yard IM (2:17.68).

On the men's side, John Alaimo '09 edged his team to victory with a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (55.44), the 200-yard IM (2:14.79), the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.41) and as part of the men's 200-yard freestyle relay (1:34.46).

The women's diving team also saw an excellent performance from Amelia Couture '12, whose score of 138.90 earned her a second-place in the 1-meter event.  For the men's team, Greg Sullivan '12 performed admirably to earn a second-place spot with 260.5 points in the 3-meter event.
