By a margin of 477 votes, Caitlin Ly ’10 was elected President of the Vassar Student Association (VSA) following a results party at 12:30 a.m. on the morning of April 28. Ly, who defeated outgoing VSA Vice President (VP) for Student Life Nate Silver ’10, will be the first female VSA President in five years.
Every student attending Vassar is a member of the Vassar Student Association (VSA). Six students in particular, however, who make up the VSA Executive Board are instrumental in acting on behalf of the entire student body; the VSA President and the five VSA Vice Presidents work throughout the year to ensure that all aspects of life at Vassar—from the curriculum, to student activities, to the operation of the College—are running in the way that best benefits the student body and the institution as a whole.
In its first meeting, the 24th Vassar Student Association (VSA) Council, led by new VSA President Caitlin Ly ’10, passed Council Resolution 24-1. The resolution articulates the Council’s support of a need-blind admissions policy as it anticipates the difficult decisions that may be made by the Board of Trustees later in the month.
As all candidate statements for Vassar Student Association (VSA) elected positions have been posted and the Executive Board debate completed, it is time that students carefully consider the views of each candidate beyond his or her posters.
